How the Hourly Price of Electricity is Set
The day-ahead hourly market prices are provided daily by MISO – the Midcontinent Independent System Operator, Inc. The hourly prices for “tomorrow” are typically made available between 3:30-5:00 p.m. Power Smart Pricing participants are billed based on these hourly prices, rather than the standard flat rate.
Ameren Illinois does not mark up the price of power, nor does Ameren Illinois profit from supplying Power Smart Pricing participants with electricity. You simply pay the market price.
Day-Ahead vs Standard Prices
The following charts list Ameren’s standard flat rates along with the average day-ahead prices. You can find the average day-ahead prices from 2007 – 2013 and the beginning of 2014 to give you a sense of the seasonal price pattern. All prices are in cents per kilowatt hour (kWh).View the Chart
