Is it Right for Me?

Power Smart Pricing could be a good option if:

  • You spend over $30 (or use over 300 kWh) a month on electricity.
  • You are interested in saving money by using energy wisely.
  • You heat your home with natural gas or propane.
  • You have flexibility and can shift some of your electricity use from higher-priced, peak-demand hours to lower-priced, off-peak hours.
  • You want to learn more about using energy efficiently.
  • You want to be part of a program that helps reduce peak demand on the electric grid and benefits the environment.

Power Smart Pricing might not be your best choice if:

  • Rate Zone I (formerly AmerenCIPS) & Rate Zone III (formerly AmerenIP) customers: If you heat your home with electricity, you may be receiving the space heat rate that offers a lower price for electricity usage over 800 kWh per month during non-summer months. Consult CNT Energy for assistance in determining whether you are likely to benefit.
  • Rate Zone II (formerly AmerenCILCO) & Rate Zone I-ME (formerly AmerenCIPS-ME): You may not benefit if you have very high winter electricity usage. Rate Zone II (formerly AmerenCILCO) residential customers and Rate Zone I (formerly AmerenCIPS) customers who were formerly served by Union Electric Company pay a lower price for non-summer electricity usage over 800 kWh per month. Consult CNT Energy for assistance in determining whether you are likely to benefit.
  • You use very little electricity (typically under 300 kWh per month, or electric bills less than $30 per month). If your usage is very low, the small monthly fee of $2.25 may not be offset by your potential savings.
  • You are not able to or prefer not to adjust your electricity usage during hours when prices are higher.

“Our family has not noticed the changes made in how we use electricity except that we wash dishes late at night and clothes early in the morning. The family does not seem to mind these changes as it gives an opportunity to help save money. If you don’t mind planning a bit on how you use electricity, this plan can really reduce energy costs.”
